Perched above Jungutbatu’s turquoise bay inside Batu Karang Lembongan Resort, The Deck Cafe & Bar leans hard into its setting. Guests talk again and again about sitting almost over the water, watching colorful boats and even turtles below while Mount Agung and very, very blue sea fill the horizon.
From breakfast to late-night cocktails, the place runs all day, usually between 07h30 and 23h00, with couch-style seating that suits lingering over a flat white more than a rushed meal.
Breakfasts, bowls and “island standard” food
Mornings are a sweet spot: people rave about smash avocado and eggs, eggs benedict “just like at home”, and croissants that are worth coming back for. Coffee divides opinion – some call it “amazing”, others find lattes and iced chocolate watery and lacking coffee punch.
Through the day, the menu stretches from nasi goreng with its own twist (not everyone’s style) and chicken satay to fish & chips, prawn linguine many found “incredibly good”, plus pizzas, tacos and arancini described as solid “for island standard”. Portions of some dishes, like papaya salad spring rolls, strike a few guests as small for the price.
Cocktails, gelato and happy hour
Cocktails are a highlight, especially at sunset and during happy hour, when visitors linger over berry juices, milkshakes, smoothies and even beer on draft, which is harder to find on the island. Several guests say drinks can taste weak or “like nothing”, while others leave delighted with creamy milkshakes and fresh juices.
Upstairs, house-style ice cream and frozen yogurt make a popular finale. The actual gelato flavour range feels modest compared with how staff sell it, but generous 1.5-scoop portions and not-too-sweet yogurt keep most people happy.
Service, waits and the digital crowd
Experiences with service swing from “super lovely and welcoming” to “terrible” and inattentive when it’s busy. Expect potential waits of around 25–30 minutes for simple orders at peak times, and note a 30-minute gap between breakfast and lunch service (no food orders from 11:00 to 11:30).
Staff are often praised for being friendly, interactive and attentive to coeliac and vegan needs, with clear menu notes and plenty of gluten free options for kids. A few guests, though, felt mishandled on things like shared bills at the sports-bar table and happy-hour pricing.
Prices, access and what you’re really paying for
Prices sit at the “Western” end: pizzas around 100K, cappuccinos about 60K, and more than one reviewer labels the place expensive or “pricey” for average food. Many still feel the cost matches the generous ice cream scoops, good cocktails and that sunset.
Reaching the cafe means a short walk off the main street along a small lane, then a climb to this tucked-away deck above the sea. There’s no minimum spend, card payments are accepted, parking is described as FAR by at least one guest, and toilets range in feedback from “tiny and really hot” to “best toilet… very cozy and smells good”.
Overall, The Deck suits travellers who value a relaxed, camera-ready view, easygoing brunches and sunset drinks over culinary purism or tight budgets.
