Casa Curandera Bali: Jungle-Side Comfort Food in Ubud
Fusion kitchen in the rice fields
Tucked along Jl. Katik Lantang in Singakerta, just outside central Ubud’s traffic, Casa Curandera Bali has grown from a hidden jungle spot into a joglo-style restaurant you can actually reach by car or scooter. Open daily from 08h00 à 22h30, it’s the kind of place where people drop in for breakfast, stay for kombucha, and somehow end up back again for pizza.
Italo‑Colombian soul food, Bali style
The menu leans into an unusual Colombian–Italian fusion: arepas, patacones and jackfruit tacos sit beside gnocchi, lasagne, ravioli and wood‑fired sourdough pizzas. Regulars single out the tuna and jackfruit arepas, cassava fries with tomato chutney, organic beef burger and a pepperoni or potato‑topped pizza as standouts. Portions are described as large, often enough for 2–3 people to share a pizza.
Healthy, intentional and a little experimental
Casa Curandera built its reputation with “mindful eating”: organic, fresh, largely house‑made food, gluten‑free options and plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Since 2024 they also serve meat, bone broth and raw grass‑fed milk, drawing a Paleo, carnivore and primal crowd with dishes like “fertility” bowls, high‑protein plates and richly flavoured chicken or beef broths. Some diners love the inventive touches – cacao bone broth, bone broth lattes, rosemary–cinnamon lemonade, banana cream and peanut‑butter lattes – while a few find certain combinations “weird” or not strictly Colombian.
Vibes, views and community
Set under a large, open‑air structure with fans and a colourful garden backing onto rice fields, the atmosphere is repeatedly called calm, cozy and “magical”. Expect soft Colombian music, a relaxed work‑friendly crowd, and sometimes cute dogs wandering between tables. It doubles as a community hub with salsa nights, DJ sets and birthday gatherings; several reviewers say they came once and then returned daily.
Service: warm, but not always swift
Most guests describe the team as kind, welcoming and knowledgeable, with big groups of 10–11 served in under 45 minutes. A minority, though, report slow greeting, missed orders or staff overlooking tables when the restaurant is busy. Management appears responsive – one critic was invited back for a complimentary coconut water and later upgraded their rating – but if you’re in a rush, patience helps.
Prices, portions and practical notes
Casa Curandera isn’t the cheapest option around Ubud; a few diners feel some dishes, sauces and dinners are pricey for what you get, especially if you need gluten‑free pasta and it’s unavailable that day. In return, many highlight generous portions, “very good prices” for the quality, and ingredients “straight from the farm”. The new location is slightly out of town and parking can feel tight, yet people still call it a “must in Ubud” and a retreat worth the short ride.
Best suited to travellers and Ubud locals who care as much about clean ingredients and creative fusion as they do about a slow, scenic meal in the rice‑field breeze.
