Campuhan Ridge Walk — Ubud’s Easy Escape
A Ridge Between Two Valleys
Slip just west of Ubud’s main street and in minutes you’re on a broad, paved path with jungle falling away on either side. The Campuhan Ridge Walk winds 1.2–2 km, most often taken south–north or back again, linking the riverside Pura Gunung Lebah with rice‑field villages like Bangkiang Sidem.
When to Go and How
Walkers in late‑morning heat often regret it; most regulars, and reviewers on Google in 2024, rave about sunrise or golden hour. It’s open at all hours, but there’s no lighting. The southern trailhead squats beside Warwick Ibah; the northern end filters into cafés, art stalls and Karsa Kafe’s lotus pond deck. Scooter parking exists at each end — bring coins for informal fees — but there’s no midway exit if you tire.
The Walk Itself
Gentle climbs, stone pavers, tall grass and coconut palms dominate the first half from the south. The river sings below but stays mostly out of sight. Expect 20–45 minutes one way at an unhurried pace; add time to linger over valley glimpses or village chatter. Many note light inclines and uneven tiles — ankle‑twists do happen — but also praise how easy it is for families and casual joggers.
Views, in Reality
Some mornings the ridge glows and the paddies shimmer; other days, overgrowth hides much of it. Several visitors found the scenery limited until the final stretch, where rice fields and mountain backdrops open. No entry fee is official; ignore anyone insisting otherwise. Wear trainers or sandals with grip, bring water and sun cover, and pre‑plan restrooms. Avoid after‑dark walking; the route is unlit. On the north side, app‑based rides are scarce — expect to walk back or arrange a pick‑up.
A short, flexible outing with low effort and a slice of rural life, Campuhan Ridge Walk rewards unhurried walkers and early risers most; adjust your expectations, and it’s a fine way to trade Ubud’s traffic for green quiet.
