Highland Escape Above Lake Bratan
Morning mist often lingers here at 1,250–1,450 m above sea level, softening the outlines of mountains and the sheen of Lake Bratan below. Spread over roughly 157 hectares on the slopes of Tapak Hill, the Bali Botanical Garden – Kebun Raya Eka Karya Bali – is as much forest as curated garden, with stands of giant ficus, orchid and begonia houses, bamboo groves, and rambling lawns.
Plant Collections and Wildlife
Specialist displays range from more than 100 cactus varieties to ceremonial plants, tree ferns, and aquatic species. Birdwatchers have recorded over 70 species; macaques and treeshrews sometimes stray in from the Batukaru Reserve. Lake‑view lawns and small temples punctuate the grounds, offering quiet picnic spots.
Getting In and Around
Gate hours are most often 08:00–16:00 on weekdays and until 17:00 on weekends. Entry runs IDR 15,500–20,000 on weekdays, IDR 25,500–30,000 on weekends, with separate parking fees. Many recent visitors recommend wheels: bicycles from about IDR 30,000/hour, electric bikes 50,000+, or golf carts around 250,000/hour. Walking the whole site can take four to six hours; slopes are steep. Policies on driving private cars inside vary: reports say weekdays restrict cars, weekends allow them.
