In Kedisan’s green folds, Mupu Rice Terrace sits apart from the crowds. Access is often through Tis Café, where a small path dips between jungle edges before opening onto layered fields. There’s no set fee – only a voluntary contribution to the family who has farmed here for generations.
Visitors praise coming early, when the air is soft and no one else is around. The steps can be steep or slippery, but short enough for most walkers. Donation boxes sit near entrances; a fresh coconut or cup of local coffee from the owners’ stall is another way to contribute.

Much of the charm lies in meeting the husband-and-wife team – Kandi and Made, or sometimes others from the extended family. Reviews describe warm smiles, unhurried conversations about rice-growing, and even playful cats curled in the shade. You may be offered to try on a conical hat, sit in a hammock, or use the small swing for photos.
Some have noticed others on the roadside claiming to collect entry fees; frequent guests advise donating only at the box inside the terrace or directly to the owners.
What You’ll See and Do
Paths loop in gentle circuits, with benches and small huts for resting. Lush terraces rise in mirrored greens during growing season, and the views sweep uninterrupted. A few simple photo spots exist – swings, hammocks – but they are free to use.
On some visits there’s a chance to see or try traditional tasks, such as threshing rice, or to sample fruit from the land. Drinks, local rice, and postcards are often for sale at modest prices.
A Different Tone From Tegallalang
Compared to the famous Tegallalang terraces nearby, Mupu is repeatedly called more genuine. Guests from Google and TripAdvisor note fewer crowds, less noise, and more emphasis on farming than on Instagram props. A couple of reviewers did feel parts of the valley verge on theme-park, with swings and zip-lines in neighboring plots, but most find the main fields tranquil.
Practical Notes
Entrances vary – most straightforward is via Tis Café, but signs and small staircases off the main road also lead down. Wear decent footwear for muddy patches. Toilets are not always available. Midday brings more visitors; early morning or later afternoon offers more solitude and softer light.
