Calm, Aesthetic Escape at MAJA Spa
Soft white walls and strawberry matcha
On busy Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, MAJA Spa hides behind all‑white, Pinterest-ready walls and a tiny café window pouring iced lattes and that “famous” strawberry matcha. Guests talk about walking in from hectic Canggu and instantly feeling cocooned by soft music, gentle aromas and cool interiors.
Many mention being welcomed with coconut water or a drink, a chilled towel and slippers, then leaving with ginger tea or lemon water in hand – little rituals that bookend the experience.
Massages, lymphatic work and hot stones
Balinese full body massages (often 60 or 90 minutes) come up again and again as “one of the best” in Bali, praised for perfect pressure and intuitive touch. Deep tissue, body sculpting, lymphatic drainage and Lymphatic Fusion treatments are also popular; some guests rave about visible results, while one found the lymphatic drainage “a bit gentle and standard”.
Therapists are often named – Ayu, Erna, Amik, Josua, Luh Mas – and described as professional, attentive and open to feedback on pressure, oil type (jasmine and jasmine/vanilla are favorites) and room temperature. A handful of reviewers, however, felt rushed, under‑pressured or poorly targeted, and one detailed a very disappointing deep tissue session despite a 1.5hr booking.
Facials in an open, shared space
Facials such as AGE DEFYING, SKIN HYDRATING (60 minutes, sometimes noted at 675IDR), Facelift, Balancing and newer facial options draw strong praise for hand‑only techniques, thorough questionnaires and 75‑minute protocols that include head, neck and even hand or foot massage.
The main trade‑off: the facial area follows an open‑concept design. Beds sit close together, with no curtains, so privacy is limited and talking guests or people walking to the bathroom can break the mood. One guest also felt a combined face massage, eye treatment and aromatherapy session ended about 20 minutes earlier than the scheduled 4.35PM despite a 2.05PM slot.
Pilates, barre and Sunday wellness
Upstairs, a bright studio hosts mat Pilates, barre, body fit, sound bath, Yin yoga and “Wellness Sunday” sessions. Several visitors call it the best Pilates they’ve had in years, especially classes led by instructors like Dr Han, Melissa and Linda; flows are described as fun, with options for beginners and regulars.
Intensity sits around light to moderate (often “3.5 out of 5”), so serious workout hunters may find some classes too gentle. One guest disliked a Pilates class with a specific instructor, while others loved barre’s ballet‑style moves and said the studio felt like a “Pinterest-style” dream.
Café sips between treatments
The outdoor café has its own fan club. Strawberry matcha – sometimes served in a can with cold foam or as a latte – is the star, joined by lavender matcha, regular matcha lattes, iced lattes, smoothies and “amazing coffee”. Many guests slip out between classes and treatments for a quick drink, calling the café area “so cute” and highly instagrammable.
Prices sit “a bit higher” than other Canggu spots, with one person citing 600KIDR for a 90‑minute Balinese massage and another feeling 1.18mil rph was not justified for a shortened triple treatment.
Service, atmosphere and small frictions
Most reviews paint staff as warm, genuinely caring and highly professional, from reception to therapists, studio team and baristas. People appreciate same‑day bookings when available, WhatsApp coordination for couples’ slots, and detailed intake forms that guide pressure, focus areas and oil choice.
Still, there are a few snags: occasional booking mix‑ups leading to staggered appointments, one guest annoyed by a strict “no refunds/transfers” line in the class-pack agreement, and another describing inconsistent front-desk welcome when asking to see the massage menu. Strong AC and bright lighting bothered a few; others were disturbed by noise bleed between treatment rooms and the adjoining yoga studio.
For travelers who value aesthetics, gentle ritual and a one‑stop mix of spa, movement and café culture, MAJA Spa in Canggu feels like a dreamy base – best suited to those happy to pay a little more for atmosphere and willing to speak up clearly about pressure, privacy and timing.
