Traditional markets and modern boutiques

Bali's markets divide into tourist-oriented (Ubud Art Market, Kuta beach vendors) and local wholesale (Pasar Badung in Denpasar). For quality handicrafts and textiles, the villages surrounding Ubud — Celuk for silver, Mas for woodcarving, Batuan for batik — are more reliable than open-air market stalls. Bargaining is standard at traditional markets; fixed-price boutiques are marked as such. Most market vendors start at 2–3x their acceptable price.
