Driving into Pecatu, the final stretch to Karang Boma Cliff turns to a short off-road jaunt, just a few hundred metres before the sea comes into view. Several visitors call it better value than nearby Uluwatu Temple – and at 10,000 rupiah per person (plus 100,000 for drone use), it’s easy to see why.

When to Arrive
Those in the know suggest reaching 30–60 minutes before sunset. That way you can roam in full daylight, watch the light shift into gold, and pick your spot on the grass or a bench. The area is small but open, and often quieter than other sunset points. Even so, weather can change the mood dramatically – cloud cover has left some visitors underwhelmed.

Facilities and Comforts
There’s a scattering of benches, a tiny café and drink stalls selling coconut water, beer, iced chocolate and coffee. Prices aren’t the cheapest, but buying a cold drink supports the local “toko” who keep the grounds tidy and, as some note, chase away monkeys. Porta-camping is possible – 50K IDR per person if you bring your own tent – and some have made bonfires here.

Monkeys, Access and Alternatives
Opinions on the local macaque population diverge. Some never saw them. Others warn of brazen theft, from slippers to phones. There are reports of locals collecting the entrance fee without issuing tickets, and even a free viewpoint nearby if you ignore the final turn. Whichever route you take, mind uneven ground and cliff edges.

Getting In and Out
Access is possible by car or motorbike, with limited parking inside. A Grab or bike taxi can drop you almost at the lookout; the challenge is getting one back after sunset. Several travellers faced long waits, cancellations, or demands for extra payment. One workaround: walk twenty minutes to the main road through forested paths before full dark, or arrange with your driver to wait.

Why It’s Worth the Stop
Crisp sea air, 180° cliff vistas and a front-row seat to Bali’s southern sunsets draw couples, small groups and even dance audiences for the evening Kecak show. It’s not a sweeping trail or a grand complex – more a single dramatic corner of coastline, best savoured unrushed. Those happy with a simple setup, a small entry fee, and nature doing the rest will settle in easily here.
