Swimming, reef, and small waves
This is one of the stronger choices in south Bali for families, casual swimmers, and even beginner surf on the right day. The water is often described as clear blue to turquoise, and several reviews mention small waves and safe-feeling swimming conditions for kids.
There is a trade-off. Low tide can expose reef or rocks, and reviewers mention coral underfoot near the shoreline, with stubbed toes a real possibility before the water deepens to about 1–1.5m and then 1.5 - 2m a little farther out. Reef-safe footwear is a sensible idea if you plan to wade.
Access, parking, and public entry
Public access is generally free, though some sources mention parking charges for public access. One reviewer who came from Kuta paid about 140,000 idr inc toll by GRAB for a 40 mins drive, then passed a security check point before being dropped near the beach.
Parking is said to be good for both cars and motorcycles, and if you are already staying in the ITDC/Nusa Dua area, this may be walkable or a very short taxi ride. First-time independent visitors may want to check the exact drop-off point, as access can feel semi-resort-like.

Praise is consistent on the basics: clean sand, calm water, fewer hawkers, and a quieter mood than busier Bali beaches. Reviewers also mention a balanced crowd of local and international visitors, plus practical extras like food nearby and easy access.
The drawbacks are just as clear. This is not a nightlife beach, some facilities feel basic unless you use a resort-linked venue, and a few visitors found the atmosphere too polished or missing some local character. For a peaceful morning swim or an unfussy half-day by the sea, Mengiat Beach suits families, couples, and Nusa Dua stayers best.
