Beji Ubud Resort: Valley Views, Frayed Edges
Lush Valley Setting, Mixed First Impressions
Tucked along Jl. Raya Sanggingan in Kedewatan, Beji Ubud Resort spreads down a steep, jungle-filled valley only 4 minutes on foot from Neka Art Museum and 2.7 km from Ubud Palace. Guests consistently praise the dramatic river gorge views and quiet setting, with some calling it a peaceful escape from the city and "absolutely beautiful" for the scenery (Google 2024). For others, that same first impression quickly fades once they step into the rooms.
Rooms: From Charming to Neglected
Accommodation ranges from simple rooms with balconies or terraces to family spaces with extra beds, 2nd levels, private gardens and 4‑poster beds. Several recent guests mention spacious layouts, cool AC and neat rooms that felt comfortable, including with a 9‑month‑old baby (Google 2024). But a large number report stained sheets, mouldy bathrooms, drainage smells and threadbare linens, with some describing spider webs, cockroaches and even rats in villas and chalets.
Pools, Stairs and That Infinity Edge
On paper, there are 5 outdoor pools, including 2 infinity pools looking straight into the valley. Many highlight the bottom infinity pool as a standout spot to linger, swim or simply film the view. In practice, multiple reviews describe dirty water, algae on the pool walls and pool furniture that looks long unused. Expect lots of very steep, sometimes mossy or greasy stairs; in rain they become seriously slippery and a few guests found the walks between rooms genuinely difficult.
Breakfast, Restaurant and Services
Complimentary breakfast is served in an open‑air setting with that same valley panorama. Experiences here diverge sharply: some guests enjoyed tasty breakfasts with a view and decent à‑la‑carte meals, while others skipped their prepaid breakfast after seeing a dirty kitchen, uncovered food, bugs on the buffet and milk served in the carton on a wet floor. Several stays found the restaurant effectively closed after breakfast and noted no food or drinks available later, despite earlier descriptions of a full restaurant, spa, yoga and cooking classes.
Service, Management and Atmosphere
Frontline staff come across as kind, overworked and often very limited in number—at times just one trainee and security on duty for the whole property. Some travellers single out a manager named Peter as friendly and helpful; others describe unreachable management, missing airport pickups, no one at reception and unanswered emails. A few guests even mention unsettling "bad spirits" and spiritual discomfort at night alongside more concrete issues like bedbugs, black mould and power or water outages.
Who This Suits Now
With its jungle setting, valley views and multiple pools, Beji Ubud Resort still holds appeal for very budget‑minded travellers who prioritise scenery over comfort and can tolerate serious maintenance shortfalls. Anyone seeking reliable 4‑star standards, strict cleanliness or a stress‑free first stay in Ubud is likely to be happier elsewhere until a full refurbishment and stronger management are in place.
